The internet is fixed! Pictures galore!

As you can tell from the title of the post, the internet is fixed! Which means I can finally post some pictures from the last week and a half! So here goes, a post composed mostly of pictures.

Starting with Athens, here's a picture of me in front of the Parthenon (I'm the one in the blue):

And here's a view from the top of the Acropolis, where you can see so much of the city. Notice also the Temple of Hephaestus in the foreground. If you remember, that one is the best preserved:

Here's a recreation of the top of the western side of the Parthenon, which shows the competition between Poseidon and Athena, which is the mythological beginning of Athens. Athena won with her olive tree, which beat Poseidon's fountain:

I think this picture turned out pretty well (it's the Parthenon from below):

And from the changing of the guard, this picture. Note the shoe pom-poms:

I always remember to take pictures of my food after I've started eating them, so here are some things I ate. The first is cheese pie, and the second is dessert that tastes like baklava but is in a different shape:

From the new Acropolis Museum, a figure of a pig from between 2500 and 2300 B.C. It's pretty clearly a pig, too:

This is the set and the background of the theater where we saw Don Quixote. As you can see, the set is modern, but the back part is original, and the seating area is redone. It's hard to tell in this picture, but the seating area is huge, and it was packed during the show:

This post is getting unwieldy because of all the pictures, so I'll leave you with a final picture of the Magic Fountain from Friday night. It turned out to be really cool, and I might write more about it in another post, so stay tuned. Here's the picture:

  1. Caroline! Your blog is amazing. I've been reading it every few days. I AM SO JEALOUS THAT YOU WENT TO GREECE. Dude, all of your pictures are so beautiful. I can't wait until I have time to escape and money and can go to all of these places. I'm a particularly big fan of your picture from the acropolis of the city. breathtaking! Not that it is as exciting, but I'll send you pictures of the bay from where I'm working this summer at LBNL. It makes me happy to go to work every day! I miss you!
